Domaine La Bastide Viognier 2002, Vin de Pays d'Hauterive.

Colour: quite intense yellow, no green hints.
Nose: very expressive, creamy and rich, loaded with sweet, ripe, spicy fruit (peaches, apricots). Many nuances.
Taste: full-bodied, dry, concentrated, again loaded with sweet and ripe fruit (peaches, apricots), good freshness, many spicy nuances, faint impressions of hops, apples and some mild bitter nuances at the end.
Finish: round, intense, with a hint of sweetness compensating the slight bitter impressions, more emphasis on spices than on fruit.

* Exotic white wine made at Château La Bastide in the Corbières. The producer Guilhem Durand is quite fanatic about quality and favours rich, soft and very aromatic wines with a lot of extract. No hard tannins in the reds, no strong acidity in his whites. The red Corbières have more elegance than his varietals (Vin de Pays). This Viognier is offering almost everything this grape can give, except elegance. An impressively expressive wine loaded with ripe and spicy fruit aroma's of peaches and apricots, with a dry, rich and round taste with enough freshness to balance the power and aroma's.

- Could be drunk now, will not improve with age (drink now) will keep until 2005.

- Recommended wine if you like concentration, richness and expressiveness of spicy (fruit) aroma's.
