Domaine Boudau Patrimoine 2003, A.C. Côtes du Roussillon Villages. **HERITAGE WINE**
Colour:
very deep and dark red with purple.
Nose:
powerful, but still closed-up, with many hints of rich and compact,
concentrated very complex fruit with numerous mineral nuances. Great
potential, some notes of confit in the background, but also freshness.
Taste:
very intense, powerful, warm, packed with tightly knitted fruit,
impressively deep and complex aroma's, reminding at high quality Port,
quite low acidity, excellent ripe, but piquant tannins, making a perfect
match with the compact richness on the palate. Strong, with great
balance and depth, warm, but not heavy.
Finish: very long, intense, powerful, with loads of beautiful
fruit already coming up, a whiff of muscat, minerals, earth and great
tannins, well embedded in the generous structure.
* This wine proves some great wines can be made without wood. Very strong, intense, compact and impressively concentrated, with great depth of fruit, complexity, strong, but excellent tannins, great expression of terroir, brooding with potential, with a warm character and excellent balance.
- Drink from now on, but
will probably close for a few month or a year and transform into a very
complex, impressive wine in which the fruit is king. Will improve
for some years, will keep until 2006 or 2007, but the relatively low
acidity will be the limiting factor for ageing. Do not keep it too
long. The (also) excellent (more austere) 2002 will keep much
longer.
- 2003 was a very hot and
dry year in all of Europe, Roussillon was no exception to that. This
wine bears that mark, but this very capable and gifted producer has
succeeded in making a great wine that is not heavy. The excellent
tannins provide the backbone and complement for the richness and alcohol
in this wine, the grapes were super ripe and extremely healthy,
this is all beautifully expressed. Compared to prices of the
wines from the fashionable producers in Bordeaux, Rhône,
Piemonte, Toscana, California, etc., this wine is a real bargain!!
