Casa de Mouraz Private Selection tinto 2004, D.O. Dão. **HERITAGE WINE**

Color: very intense, dark red with no purple left.
Nose: a bit restrained, but opening up a bit after a few minutes, some wood, fruit, earth, spices, minerals, some acidity, but underlying power and concentration, some depth as well, strong and compact with good fruit and interesting spiciness, still young.
Taste: medium bodied, with a beginning roundness, good intensity and mid-palate, good fruit, underlying minerals, spices, herbs, liquorice and earth, some wood, still compact richness and ripeness, still hidden and waiting to develop, good integration of wood, well balanced, some rustic tannins, good fresh acidity, some depth, very good potential. Classic wine, still asleep.
Finish: very long and intense, fanning-out, with lots of minerals, ripe fruit, spices, still very concentrated and compact, but showing already depth and very good balance, young tannins and some emerging balsamic nuances of seal-wax and pine tree, very good, but still very young.

* A sleeping giant, organically produced, not subtle or refined, but very well composed and concentrated, with emerging depth and lots of semi-hidden earthy, minerally and fruity nuances, a touch of well absorbed wood, some rusticity and great length, this is a great expression of terroir, with great potential for maturing.

- Can be drunk now, but decanting is mandatory, will develop into a big and interesting wine, optimum maturity ca. 2009 - 2010, will keep till ca.  2015.

- Organically produced wine, a rarity in Portugal unfortunately. But this special selection, made of low yielding vines (Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Jaen and Alfrocheiro), shows what is possible in this country if you are determined to produce quality. This is not an easy wine, but it is a far greater pleasure to drink than the oceans of overoaked examples of prestige cuvée's. There is a lot of extract from the juice of the grapes. This backbone allowed an intense extraction and maturation on wood without being over powered. The wine is still young and a bit edgy (tannins) but there is so much behind to back these components up, one should not be afraid this wine will dry out soon. It will become less young and a bit smoother, but it will always have that rustical touch that makes it so different and exciting to taste and drink. This is pure vineyard transferred into wine by the grape, weather and man.
